Four issues
Hi David and other readers,
I've observed issues with the Screamer Radio software and related web sites:
1. The dates of postings on this forum site http://bugtraq.steamcore.se/ are
not mentioned (this is why I actually note this message's date below, to
give an idea of it's creation, at least).
2. The Screamer Radio program's author is not announced, neither on
https://www.steamcore.se/ nor on https://www.screamer-radio.com/ nor in
accompanying software docs.
Third-party sites indicate that the author's full name is "David Zidar",
official sources do not (currently) confirm this, however.
3. There is a gap in Screamer Radio's release history: the most recent entry in
the https://apps.steamcore.se/Screamer.Legacy/screamer044.zip/docs/history.txt
file (19238 byte from 2010-11-20 16:00) refers to Version 0.4.4, released on
2010-11-20, whereas https://www.screamer-radio.com/releasenotes/ 's oldest
entry refers to Screamer Radio Preview 2018-08-23 (or preview release
2018-08-13, at most).
I suppose Screamer Radio's development had not ceased between 2010-11-20 and
2018-08-13, but what has happened in the meantime? In particular, it would
be interesting to know when you've switched to development tools which no
longer support older versions of Windows. I wonder whether, e.g. an interim
(preview) release from 2014 might support a particular Windows version, and
whether it's worth to look for it.
4. Still one program-related (rather than merely information-related) aspect:
Screamer Radio v0.4.4 stops ungracefully if it cannot find it's BASS.DLLs,
i.e. the Windows error message "Screamer Radio has detected a problem and
has to close" is displayed, instead of a "Critical error! Could not initialize
BASS, make sure bass.dll exists.." notification (from the program's binary).
Alas, Screamer Radio v0.4.4 does *not support BASS.DLL positions somewhere
in the search path (e.g. in %SystemRoot%\system32), but only detects them if
placed in the same directory as the executable itself - which may cause some
redundancy and version mismatch if other applications use BASS.DLLs as well.
